PMPEI Train the Trainer

The PA Municipal Planning Education Institute will be conducting a Train-the-Trainer class to prepare instructors to teach the PMPEI Course in Subdivision and Land Development Review. The training consists of two weekend sessions, Friday and Saturday, October 6 and 7, and Saturday, October 21.  and will be held in State College. The training program will also include instruction for teaching the PMPEI online course, Managing the Subdivision Review Process.

The Course in Subdivision and Land Development Review Course is an in-depth, 10-hour, newly revised course intended to help students master the complex and time-sensitive review process, as well as teaching them how these regulations are an integral part of a community’s planning process. In sharing your knowledge and experience you will be helping local officials become better planners.

2023 is PMPEI’s 31st year as the PA Chapter/American Planning Association’s principal educational outreach to planning commissioners and local officials. Courses are set up at convenient sites- usually in municipal facilities- so they are close to where students are located. As an instructor you will be joining about 50 other professionals who teach in the PMPEI program that reaches about 1,400 officials a year. PMPEI Instructors are paid for teaching courses, and also receive travel and meal reimbursement. Teaching assignments are set up to keep travel time reasonable for instructors.

If you have at least five years’ experience in planning in Pennsylvania and would like to be a PMPEI Instructor, contact Stanford Lembeck, AICP, at slembeck34@gmail.com.  The registration fee for the three-day training is $150, and class size is limited. A registration form, with additional information about the PMPEI Planning and Zoning Course Program, will be sent to you.

Sept. 6 – Webinar Wednesday: Critical Aquifer Recharge Areas in the Susquehanna River Basin

September 6 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Critical Aquifer Recharge Areas in the Susquehanna River Basin

Groundwater recharge is the primary means of ensuring water is available in aquifers for water supply and as base flow to streams.  Different geologic materials, structures, and land uses all influence the rate in which water can recharge underlying aquifers. This study incorporated factors influencing recharge through standardization and weighting-assignments using the MCDA-GIS framework to identify land-surface areas that provide a large fraction of recharge. Results from the tool will aid in planning, developing and/or prioritizing preservation, restoration, or enhancement projects.  Protecting and enhancing Critical Aquifer Recharge Areas, will assist with drought resiliency, improving water quality, and preserving water supply for future use.

CM credit is pending approval. You must attend the webinar live in order to earn CM credit.

Speaker: Pierre MaCoy

**The Pennsylvania Chapter is not responsible for the materials or opinions of the speaker(s) you will hear**

Aug. 8: Advancing Climate Resiliency in Pennsylvania

Date- Aug 8, 2023

Time- 11am-12pm ET

Title- Advancing Climate Resiliency in Pennsylvania

Zoom link- https://tpl.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_7716IrenQcqwSQk-nw-owQ

Description- Investing in ‘blue and green zones’–trails built along waterways such as streams, rivers, creeks, and lakes– has immense potential to bring multiple climate benefits to communities in Pennsylvania. Restoring buffers along waterways not only addresses state and federal water quality improvement goals and stormwater management requirements, but also protects habitats, increases biodiversity, and makes these natural areas more accessible to local communities. This webinar will highlight success stories of modern “blue and green” greenway projects in central Pennsylvania, and speakers will share a holistic approach to increasing climate resiliency in these areas, and how they leveraged funding to integrate trails and waterway development.
